Making an Impact

The Russian River Alliance has a direct impact on the lives of working families, residents, and businesses in the Lower Russian River community.

We are a small grassroots community benefit 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed in 2012. We are an all-volunteer organization. Over the years, the Russian River Alliance has been leading the way in working with and for our community, whether it has been addressing local issues of concern such as: promoting equality, improving air quality, beautification efforts, economic development, support for our businesses, bringing back traditions such as the parade of lights; to our Workforce Fund, we are a dedicated group of volunteers.

More  recently, we find ourselves at the epicenter of climate related disasters since 2019 with floods, fires, pandemics, and fires during a pandemic – inflicting severe environmental and economic tolls on our local communities. These devastating events now happen on almost a yearly basis.

We represent a constituency of the Lower Russian River watershed of about 9,000 people in Sonoma County, California. We live in an ecologically fragile area where ancient Redwoods tower into the sky with a fragile river that flows through them to the pacific ocean a few miles away.

Our Work

Workforce Fund

We believe one of the best ways to support our community is by focusing on the prevention of homelessness and workforce retention. This is done by supporting our local businesses and workforce in times of need.

Sometimes one time emergency assistance, when faced with disruptions such as temporarily reduced hours, unexpected moving expenses brought on from large rent increases, landlords selling your home, or losing your home from flooding, can make the difference between being able to continue to contribute to our community and make your own way, or becoming homeless.

This is a hand up, not a hand out program.

Preserving Nature

At the Russian River Alliance, we understand the importance of preserving our environment for future generations. It is important to protect the natural resources of our community, where the Russian River flows through the majestic ancient redwoods. Through our efforts, we aim to create a sustainable and thriving ecosystem for all.

In November 2023 at the Conference of Parties (COP28), the Russian River Alliance was admitted as an observer organization to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

We are very proud of this achievement and look to work closer with other international NGO's to ensure that our communities, our river, and our majestic redwood forest are healthy and thrive.

Making a Difference

As a community benef organization, our primary focus is also on creating positive change within our community. We collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and individuals to address the needs of our community members. Through our various programs and initiatives, we strive to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Lower Russian River area.

In February 2022, the Russian River Alliance was awarded a grant by Sonoma County to install a robust free public Wi-Fi which was completed just a few months later in June and has been operating smoothly. From this project, Equitable Access California was born which is furthering the mission of bringing free public Wi-Fi to other unincorporated rural communities.

The Alliance has been instrumental in the efforts for local governance, working closely with our District 5 office.

We also like to have fun and have been instrumental in bringing back the annual Holiday Parade of Lights, as well as working with community members to bring back Guerneville Pride.

Please consider making it monthly

For small grass roots organizations, while big donations have an immediate impact, making it a monthly recurring donation allows us to better plan our year.
